Eastern Visayas State University – Dulag Campus (EVSU-DC) Administrator, Dr. Gerald Jayson B. Balanga, announced on April 30, 2025, that two academic programs will be phased out based on the initial assessment conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The announcement was made during a general meeting with the parents and guardians of concerned students at the Dulag Cultural Center. The programs facing closure are the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) and the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSE), which will halt operations starting Academic Year 2025-2026. Dr. Balanga confirmed the decision, stating, “Based on the initial assessment, an matatabo han duha nga program is ig-phase out lang muna” (Based on the initial assessment, what will happen to the two programs is a temporary phase-out).

The sudden announcement elicited various reactions and sentiments from the parents and students present. In response to the shock and concern, the EVSU-DC administration provided immediate assurance regarding the affected students’ academic future. Students have several options: they may opt to shift to the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program, which will continue to be offered at the Dulag Campus, or they may transfer to another external campus or the main campus. Despite these options, some students expressed concerns about potential struggles upon transferring. To gather concrete data and facilitate the transition, faculty-advisers disseminated a Google Form survey to all first-year to third-year BSE and BSOA students. The survey offers four specific choices: shifting to BSIT at the Dulag Campus, transferring to other schools, stopping studies, or transferring to the Main, Tanauan, or Burauen Campus. The administration addressed inquiries, although some attendees were reportedly left with unanswered questions. The survey is set to close on Monday, May 5, allowing the administration to finalize plans based on the students’ choices.
